I recall you saying some time ago that after your Niner, your wife made you promise no new bikes for a few years...wow, how time flies. ;) I also picked up a cross bike to ride on the roads here in CA. I wanted a tough bike that could handle everything from bike packing, commutes, harsh weather and a century. It may be a bit heavy with a riding weight of ~20lbs, but I just consider that a better workout (and not much different than my old steel single speed I rode in NC).
